Infrasounds

For classic quintet and death whistle

Frequencies below 20 hertz, which are outside the range of audible pressure are used in nature by the female elephant as a secret method of communication by way of vibration through the ground.

These sounds, to which the Mayans attributed dangerous powers connected to the underworld, were recreated through aerophone chaos generators or death whistles whose effects were so dreaded, it was thought that if two of these aerophones sounded simultaneously vibrational frequency would produce death.

The piece, premiered at the Ateneu of Barcelona for the 26th Cycle of Music in XX and XI century by Tactum Ensamble, was subsequently played in the Auditorium of Terrassa.

With the piece “Infrasounds” I was awarded an incentive prize by the SGAE in the category of regular symphony.
